Yamaha has updated the R6 for 2005, with changes aimed at increased power and better handling. The motor features larger throttle bodies, revised fuel and ignition maps, new camshafts and redesigned intake funnels – resulting in a claimed 3hp increase in peak power, with more power at all RPMs.
The chassis uses a new 41mm inverted fork and a redesigned frame and swingarm linkage. Up front, radial-mount calipers now grip larger 310mm discs, with fluid moved by a new radial master cylinder.
Styling changes are limited to revisions to the headlight lens and under-cowl.
