2005 Triumph Speed Triple Gets Back to Its Roots

Over a decade ago, when the new Triumph introduced its first Speed Triple, it had a raw, mean look. No frills, just the bare essence of a motorcycle . . . with an attitude.

That bike displaced 885cc, and featured, of course, a three-cylinder engine. For 2005, Triumph has completely redesigned the Speed Triple, with a larger, 1050cc triple powering an all-new chassis with fully adjustable suspension. Those new, gold anodized upside down forks hold onto radial mounted brake calipers.

Reaching for edgy styling, the new Triple adopts the stubby rear-end so popular in Europe among naked bike customizers.

We will try our best to get our hands on a 2005 Speed Triple for a test. With a claimed 128 horsepower, and nearly 80 foot pounds of torque pulling around just 416 pounds (claimed dry weight), you can bet the new Speed Triple can rightfully lay claim to one of the healthiest nakeds available. Stay tuned.
