2004 AMA 250cc Supercross Champion Chad Reed is back home in Australia for a while after getting married in California last month, but don’t think for a second that he’s laying on the deck soaking up the summer sun while down under.
Reed competed in last weekend’s Supercross Masters race at Gosford’s Central Coast Express Advocate stadium, using the night as a chance to test some ’05 supercross hardware. And it’s a good thing he did, as his racing gearbox suffered a failure that locked the back wheel and caused him to DNF the night’s final race.
Coming into the 2005 season, which is expected to be the most competitive in recent history (Stewart, Carmichael and Reed are the top contenders), Reed will want to make sure he avoids any possibility of a DNF which could cost him the championship come season’s end.
In an interview with the Supercross Masters web site, Reed said “That gearbox was specially developed in America, We would have put that straight into my race bike.” He also commented “I guess somebody’s got some work to do.”
