If there is one thing most manufacturers learned in the late 1990s, it was this — if you are going to build a successful cruiser, make sure it has a v-twin engine. Why? Because that’s what the customer wants.
Along comes Triumph with the Rocket III — featuring a triple. Initial sales are reportedly quite strong. Does this mean the v-twin rule no longer applies? Or does it mean that the v-twin rule doesn’t apply to Triumph?
It probably means Triumph can get away with building a cruiser with a triple, but other manufacturers better stick with the tried-and-true, v-twin formula. What are your thoughts? Email us.
