The Alstare Suzuki Team and their new Suzuki GSX-R1000s dominated the two-race opening round of the World Superbike Championship in Qatar. Troy Corser (Suzuki) took the win in a rain-interrupted Race One, which ran 11 laps before being stopped and restarted for an additional eight laps. The race was scored on combined time, and Corser’s teammate Yukio Kagayama (Suzuki) finished second, ahead of the Ducati of Regis Laconi.
In Race Two, it was Kagayama in front at the checkered flag, this time followed by Laconi’s Ducati in second place, and Corser in third.
