Reed Refuses To Yield

Once again, Ricky Carmichael has everybody at the starting gate racing for second place… except Chad Reed. Despite being beaten by Carmichael 7 times this year, and facing Carmichael at his favorite supercross track, Chad Reed rode the race of his life to lead Carmichael from start to finish at Daytona.

Somehow, Reed continues to believe in himself week after week, and has been the only rider to push Carmichael all year long. Reed now has two supercross victories, including Daytona and the come-from-behind win over Carmichael at San Diego.

If you get a chance, watch the Daytona Supercross on Speed this Friday (check your local listings). Reed and Carmichael ran away from the pack (as usual), but Reed’s mastery of the outrageously rough Daytona track is definitely something to behold. You will ask yourself how Reed manages to look smooth and relaxed on a track that is hammering everyone else. Beyond all this, it was an epic race.

With 6 rounds remaining in the AMA Supercross series, Carmichael still has a huge points lead, but you can count on the races being more interesting with the arrival of James Stewart and Travis Pastrana next weekend in Orlando. If these guys can run the pace that Reed and Carmichael are setting, it will be more than impressive. At the very least, the continuing battle between Reed and Carmichael should keep things interesting.
