The MX1 Grand Prix series opens this weekend at Zolder, Belgium. This is one of the most highly anticipated grand prix series in history.
We reported on the difficulties experienced by five-time World champion Joel Smets (Suzuki) last year. His health difficulties seem overcome, however, and his pre-season testing and racing has been superb. He appears ready for battle at Zolder.
Eight-time World champion Stefan Everts (Yamaha) is likewise in top form, having won many motos in pre-season races. The battle between Smets and Everts this year could be epic.
Of course, both of these great champions will have stiff competition from other riders, including former World champion Mickael Pichon (Honda), and some of the younger riders like Kevin Strijbos (Suzuki) and Steve Ramon (KTM).
