Marco Melandri (Honda) won the first MotoGP race of his career today at the new venue in Istanbul, Turkey. Following Melandri across the line in second was champion Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) who suffered from a bad start, but nevertheless could not keep pace with one of the youngest riders in the paddock. Melandri’s victory gives him a 9 point lead in the race for second place in the championship over Nicky Hayden (Honda), who finished in third position today.
