Tonight’s AMA Supercross race in Anaheim, California featured another main event battle between leading championship contenders Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) and James Stewart (Kawasaki). Stewart took the lead early in the race, but was quickly challenged by Carmichael, who pressured him hard for most of the race. Stewart was obviously feeling the heat, as he made a few big bobbles before finally going down a few laps from the finish. Both Carmichael and Chad Reed (Yamaha) passed Stewart while he struggled to restart his bike. Reed was too far back to challenge Ricky, and the race finished in that order – Carmichael first, Reed second, Stewart third.
The “Lites” class saw Kawasaki’s Grant Langston take the win over the Honda-mounted Andrew Short, with Nate Ramsey (KTM) finishing third.
Carmichael holds a slight lead in the premier class, with 70 points to Reed’s 66 and Stewart’s 65. Short and Langston are now tied for the points lead in the West Coast Lites championship, each with 63 points.
