By the third corner, tonight’s AMA Supercross race at Daytona International Speedway was shaping up to be a classic showdown. Kawasaki’s James Stewart came out with the holeshot, closely followed by Chad Reed (Yamaha) and Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki). Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out quite the way they looked in that third corner. Stewart was pulling away from Reed and Carmichael slightly when he crashed only a few laps into the race, flying off the back of a berm, and taking almost an entire lap to restart his bike.
Meanwhile, Carmichael quickly worked his way past Reed, and pulled out to a comfortable lead, cruising unchallenged to the win. Reed was equally as lonely in second place, while Kawasaki’s Michael Byrne put in an impressive ride to take third. After restarting his Kawasaki, Stewart re-entered the track and was able to catch up to the pack and work his way up to 7th place.
In the Supercross Lites class, Davi Millsaps (Honda) came away with the win after taking the lead away from Chris Gosselaar (Kawasaki), who ended up finishing third. Josh Grant (Honda) finished in second.
Carmichael holds the Supercross points lead, followed closely by Reed in second place with Stewart in third. In the Supercross Lites class Davi Millsaps has the lead in the points race, followed by Chris Gosselaar in second and Josh Grant in third.
