A rumor has been swirling about the motocross community for a few weeks now that Chad Reed is negotiating to form his own team for 2007. The rumor suggests Reed may race Hondas with Nate Ramsey as his teammate. Both Reed and Ramsey are in the last year of their contract, with Yamaha and KTM, respectively. Another aspect of this rumor involves management of the team by Larry Brooks, who recently announced he was leaving a similar position with KTM.
If it does indeed come into being, Reed’s rumored team may be backed by a major outside the industry sponsor, similar to the independent team formed by Jeremy McGrath a few years ago. Also, you might expect this team to be a “Supercross only” deal.
With the AMA Outdoor Nationals just beginning this weekend, there may be no official announcement of Reed’s or Ramsey’s 2007 plans for quite some time. As always, stay tuned.
