With more National wins than any rider in AMA Motocross/Supercross history (combined) and more National titles (is it 14, now?) you would think there might be a bit more fanfare as Ricky Carmichael winds down his career as a full-time racer.
Although he will race “selected events” next year, after a few more weekends of motocross, RC is done with the weekend-to-weekend lifestyle of a motocross racer — the only lifestyle he has known for roughly two decades. We will never see another rider like him. Always able to rise to a new challenge, Carmichael overcame Jeremy McGrath, Chad Reed, Kevin
Windham and James Stewart, among others, during his career. We saw him reinvent himself more than once in order to stay at the front.
We will have more to say about Carmichael when this season ends, but we wanted to remind you to watch him ride this year if you can. You will want to tell your grandkids about it.
