With just two of twelve rounds remaining, the AMA Motocross Lites championship title chase is separated by just 20 points. Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) leads the series despite two mechanical DNFs — his speed has been that superior to the competition. Mike Alessi (KTM), meanwhile, has been steady, if not spectacularly fast — although Alessi did fail to score points in one moto a couple of weeks ago at Broome-Tioga following a crash on the first lap.
The series continues tomorrow at Steel City, Pennsylvania, with the finale coming up next weekend at Glen Helen, California. With 25 points available to the winner of each moto, the series is definitely still close and hotly contested. Alessi is rumored to be moving to the 2007 model KTM 250SX-F for tomorrow’s racing.
