The 2006 Motocross des Nations title went to the Team USA lineup of James Stewart, Ivan Tedesco (standing in for an injured Ricky Carmichael) and Ryan Villopoto. Consistent finishes by Stewart and Villopoto earned the winning points, despite the fact that none of the Team USA riders won a moto all weekend.
The big news for many fans was the showdown between Stefan Everts and James Stewart, which turned out to be not quite as much of a battle as might have been expected – Everts handily defeated Stewart in both the motos in which they competed. Everts’ two wins helped him lead the Belgian team to a second place overall finish. Team New Zealand, led by Ben Townley, finished third.
