Fueled by espresso and the classic Italian ardore for racing (and winning), a small team of engineers from Bologna has done the seemingly impossible – developed an 800cc MotoGP contender that allowed young Casey Stoner to defeat the giants from Japan. Reports from Qatar indicate Ducati, with its desmo power, was devastatingly fast on the straights — a clear indication of superior horsepower.
Bridgestone is to be congratulated, as well. With Stoner setting the fastest lap at the end of the race, while Rossi complained of losing grip on his Michelin-shod Yamaha, Ducati has a complete package.
The season is young, however, and the 800 era is in its infancy. Expect rapid development from all of the manufacturers, but right now they are chasing Ducati/Bridgestone.
