Just when the other teams might have felt a bit cocky, Suzuki shows up on Day 2 of the Infineon test this past couple of days, and blows the other AMA superbike riders out of the water. Mat Mladin and Ben Spies reportedly lapped with identical times, each breaking the lap record at Infineon, and more importantly, each being quicker than all rivals at the test. With factory riders from Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki all throwing down laps, Mladin and Spies were roughly a second quicker than third-quickest Jason DiSalvo on his Yamaha.
Although Spies took the win at the opening round in Daytona, Mladin experienced bad luck and finished in tenth position. Spies is the defending AMA superbike champ, but multi-time champ Mladin is chomping at the bit to take the crown back this year from his teammate.
