The following press release was issued by the office of MD publisher, Kimberly Edge. As indicated, Ms. Edge has reprimanded her subordinate, editor Dirck Edge, for the insensitive comment “It really was a man’s world” in Mr. Edge’s article dated May 14, 2007.
Ms. Edge, currently preparing to test for her black belt in Tae Kwon Do, stays in shape by bicycling more than 100 miles per week; and prominently displays on her desk an aluminum plaque created by one of her sons that states “Remember: You Kick Ass”. As a motorcyclist herself, Ms. Edge has invited Mr. Edge to attend this year’s FemMoto event with her in order to obtain gender sensitivity training (and be her umbrella boy). Here is the full text of publisher Edge’s press release:
Temecula, CA (May 15, 2007): MD apologizes to its readers for the callous, chauvinistic remark by Editor Dirck Edge in his article dated May 14, 2007 that, in a supposed bygone era, “It really was a man’s world”. We want our readers to know that MD publisher Kimberly Edge has reminded Mr. Edge of his subordinate position in the MD organization, and has called him to task over this grievous affront.
As punishment for his actions, Mr. Edge has been required to (1) have his photograph taken sprawled atop a cruiser motorcycle wearing nothing more than a skimpy bathing suit (which hardly flattered his deteriorating 50 year old body); (2) hold targets for Ms. Edge as she practices her punches and kicks in preparation for her black belt test; (3) ride motorcycles with female riders who are faster than Mr. Edge (and there are plenty); (4) write a follow-up essay on his enlightenment at the FemMoto event held later this year in Las Vegas; and (5) write 100 times on the whiteboard “I just let you think it was a man’s world. I just let you think it was a man’s world . . .”
Having been duly castigated, we expect Mr. Edge to toe the line a bit more carefully in his future writings.
