Chris Vermeulen gave Suziki its first ever MotoGP victory today in Le Mans, France after a wild race that started in the dry and ended in the wet. After the riders switched to bikes with rain tires fitted part way through the race, Vermeulen showed his mastery of the slippery conditions and rode to a convincing victory over Marco Melandri (Honda) who finished second, and series points leader Casey Stoner (Ducati) who finished third.
Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) went backwards near the end of the race, ultimately finishing sixth, and allowing Stoner to pad his championship points lead.
