Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) continued to prove that he is taking his final season of MX racing as seriously as ever, dominating today’s AMA Motocross National at High Point. In Moto One, Carmichael passed early leader James Stewart (Kawasaki) to take the win, with the defending champ coming back even stronger for Moto Two, pulling away early to an uncontested victory over second-place Stewart. His 1-1 finish gave Carmichael the overall win on the day, with Stewart second overall (2-2) and Honda’s Davi Millsaps third (4-3).
In the Motocross Lites class, Honda’s Josh Grant went 1-3 to take the overall win, followed by the Kawasakis of Ryan Villopoto (2-2) and Ben Townley (10-1).
Just two rounds into the outdoor season, Carmichael leads Stewart in the Motocross class points race, 97 to 87, while Villopoto tops the Lites class championship standings with 91 points to second-place Townley’s 83.
