Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto had the points lead going into the Budds Creek round of the AMA Motocross Lites series championship last weekend, but he had not won any of the previous rounds. In fact, Villopoto’s teammate Ben Townley appeared to be coming on strong — narrowing Villopoto’s points lead in the series to single digits.
At Budds Creek, Villopoto regained control of the series with a convincing overall win and 1/1 moto finishes. The “next Ricky Carmichael” (as Villopoto has frequently been called), showed Townley and everyone else, that he is still the man to beat in the Lites class, and this is his championship to lose.
