Shortly after it was confirmed that Tony Elias broke his femur during practice for this weekend’s Assen GP, his Gresini Honda team was looking for a replacement.
MCN is reporting that WSB star James Toseland, also aboard a Honda with similar sponsorship, has been contacted about riding the Elias bike during some of the remaining MotoGP races that do not conflict with the WSB calendar. According to MCN, Neil Hodgson is also under consideration.
You can bet that the Elias grid position will be filled with someone soon. It makes economic sense to do so, and there are plenty of talented riders who would love to give MotoGP a shot. Although Elias has already had surgery, it is rare for a rider to return to the track in less than three months after a femur break.
