If you have been riding in the canyons here in Southern California lately, you have probably noticed a trend. The same trend can be observed at track days (particularly, on tighter tracks like the Streets of Willow).
In the tightest twisties, Supermotos are taking over. Singles and twins with lots of torque and light weight, coupled with dirt bike-style ergonomics and wide handlebars, are surgical tools through the tight stuff. With comparable riders, a sport bike might not stand a chance against a Supermoto without some high speed sections, such as broad, sweeping turns and longer straightaways.
“Resistance” to Supermotos in the U.S. market is crumbling. Bring ’em on!
