With the impending announcement that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will host a MotoGP race in 2008, the impact on motorcyclists in this country could be significant. Why? Because Indianapolis Motor Speedway tends to promote races (such as Formula 1) far more than any other venue, and due to its history, draws more fan interest and media interest than any other venue here in the United States.
While U.S. fan interest in motorcycle road racing lags far behind levels found in Europe, an Indy MotoGP race could potentially draw fans in numbers only seen in Europe previously (although the Laguna Seca MotoGP event rivals some European event’s attendance).
