As we reported a few days ago, Kawasaki’s 2008 ZX-10R features a form of traction control. Sounds impressive, and it is in many respects, but the system need not be very complicated.
According to Kawasaki, the new ZX-10R features “advanced ignition management” that helps “curtail sudden spikes in engine speed, enhancing the rider’s control of torque delivery.” Given that a modern ECU could easily monitor gear position and rpm change, a rate of rpm increase outside given parameters could easily be met with an ignition cut that eliminates unwanted wheel spin almost before it starts.
Expect other sportbike manufacturers to follow Kawasaki’s lead.
