With two National Motocross Lites championships and a Regional Supercross Lites championship, young Ryan Villopoto (now 19) is the heir apparent to Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart.
Kawasaki mounted, Villopoto will attack the Lites category again in 2008. With Ben Townley moving to the 450 class, Villopoto should repeat his double championships of 2007 next year. In 2009, it is on to the big bikes and an already anticipated showdown with James Stewart.
The shy Villopoto is a Washington native with a strong work ethic and tons of natural talent. Here’s hoping that some rookie comes up to give him a stiff challenge next year. Otherwise, we could be in for some boring racing.
