When the AMA announced the U.S. Motocross of Nations team last week, the selections were not really a surprise, particularly given the recent injury to Suzuki’s Mike Alessi. Nevertheless, it is odd to see the entire three-rider team come from Kawasaki. I can’t remember the last time all three riders rode the same brand of machine, although I’m sure it has happened at least once (probably more than that). James Stewart and Tim Ferry both competed on factory Kawasaki KX450Fs this year, both in supercross and outdoors. The factory team is sponsored by Monster Energy, and the third rider’s team, Pro Circuit, is also sponsored by Monster Energy. That third rider is Ryan Villopoto, and he will compete aboard a KX250F.
Returning as team manager is Roger DeCoster. The site of the race is England’s Donington Park, and the race will occur on the final weekend of September. The Donington circuit is full of supercross-grade jumps, and this will certainly favor the U.S. team.
