The riding impression we posted a few days ago really says it all, but a couple of additional thoughts have crept in. First, it is hard to imagine any manufacturer other than Star producing a motorcycle that accelerates like this beast. This bike produces power right at the edge of current DOT approved tire technology, and, of course, can frequently exceed the ability of the rear tire to maintain grip. Which also brings to mind quarter-mile times. Will the new Star VMax prove to be the quickest production motorcycle through the quarter mile? I am not so sure. While I am reasonably confident that the VMax accelerates harder than any other production bike out of the hole, traction will be a big issue through the first three gears, and inferior aerodynamics might put the VMax at a disadvantage near the end of the quarter mile versus the ZX-14 and the Hayabusa, for instance. Of course, testing will eventually tell the full story.
For now, yours truly continues to bask in the afterglow of a unique riding experience.
