Stoner Takes Pole for Opening Round in Qatar

We don’t normally report on MotoGP qualifying, but everyone seems particularly excited about this year on the new Bridgestone spec tires.

In qualifying for tomorrow night’s opening round in Qatar, Ducati’s Casey Stoner blitzed the competition, and easily took the fastest lap leading into tomorrow’s race. Yamaha’s defending champ Valentino Rossi qualified in second position, while his teammate Jorge Lorenzo fills out the front row of the grid in third.

Of interest, the Suzukis of Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen were far more competitive than last year, putting those riders on the second and third row, respectively.

Stoner’s teammate Nicky Hayden had a rough evening with a big highside, and a trip to the hospital. Preliminary reports indicate no broken bones, however, but Hayden is questionable for tomorrow’s race. Of course, we will bring you the results of tomorrow’s race.
