Despite continued soreness, James Stewart will arrive in California late on Friday and participate in Saturday’s Anaheim round of the AMA Supercross series, according to a report by Cycle News on its web site this afternoon. You will recall that Stewart was involved in a big crash during his heat race at Phoenix last Saturday, and had to be helped from the track. Stewart rode in the main event, however, after qualifying with a win in the LCQ. He finished 15th in the main and sits 7th in the points going into round 3 (Anaheim II) this weekend.
Young 450 class rookie Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) has a solid 16 point lead in the championship after 2 rounds, having finished second and first. Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto also came alive last weekend and rode to a strong 2nd place finish in Phoenix. These two young riders could pose some serious competition for Stewart this weekend, particularly if he is slightly off his game.
