Following his crash at Mugello Saturday morning, Valentino Rossi has undergone two separate surgeries in Florence, Italy. The first surgery (which occurred during the weekend) involved repair of the broken bone, itself, while the second surgery was used to close a related leg wound (requiring 15 stitches). The doctor performing the surgeries has issued a statement indicating that Rossi is recovering well, and that the surgical procedures were successful.
Yamaha is not offering any prediction about the timing of Rossi’s return to racing, but one would normally expect a repaired broken bone to take at least six weeks (if not more) to mend, followed by a reasonable amount of time for physical rehabilitation. Undoubtedly, Rossi’s title ambitions for this year have ended, and it even appears possible he would not ride again this year.
Don’t forget his 4 wheel skills too!
Forza Vale!!!
He’s to close to Ago’s record to want to quit. It’s not a career ending injury either. But he wouldn’t be the least bit competitive trying to come back before season’s end. He should just count on getting to 100%, signing a new contract and testing in the fall. No point in risking further and possibly lifelong injury coming back sooner, especially since there’s no glory to be had from it. In the meantime put the unemployed Garry McCoy on the bike. Edwards won’t do any better on a factory ride than he does on the Tech 3.
IMO Rossi’s injury is not a career ender. It all depends on how Rossi feels. I think Rossi still has some good years ahead of him if he so desires. Don’t forget Rossi is only 30 yrs old and Edwards and Caparossi are both over 35 yrs old and still doing well. Never bet against the Doctor!!
Sad. Even Michael Schumacher’s career ended. Might this be the end of Rossi’s two-wheel racing career? His stellar motorcycle racing fortune had to end sometime.
