James Stewart (Yamaha) took the win at round 2 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series held in Phoenix last evening. Stewart, who finished third last weekend at Anaheim, was in a close battle early on with last week’s winner Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) when Villopoto crashed. Villopoto remounted to finish second, while Trey Canard (Honda) finished third. Villopoto has a two point lead over Stewart in the championship.
In the Western Region Lites main event, Josh Hansen (Kawasaki) took his second win in a row ahead of teammate Broc Tickle in second and Ryan Morais (Suzuki) in third. Hansen has the series points lead.
The series visits Dodger Statium in Southern California for the first time next weekend. For additional details, results and points, visit the Monster Energy Supercross site.
Awesome main, it was a race of using your head and being patient. Stewart not previously known for either of those actually did it. He was patient, new the pace the slippery track was capable of. Villipoto was hot on his heels and ended up washing out. Which was dissappointing, I really like Villipoto. None the less a very good ride by Stewart. Interesting too was the question about what electronic device was on his back wheel. He didnt seem to like that question very much! Most likely was a wheel speed sensor and not traction control since TC is illegal in Supercross.
