Round 2 of the 2011 WSB series was held at Donington Park earlier this weekend, and points leader Carlos Checa (Ducati) had another good weekend by finishing third in Race 1 and winning Race 2. Marco Melandri (Yamaha) had an even better outing with a win in Race 1 and a second place in Race 2. Jakub Smrz (Ducati) finished second in Race 1, while Leon Camier (Aprilia) rounded out the podium in Race 2 with a third place finish. Defending champ Max Biaggi (Aprilia) finished seventh in Race 1 and was disqualified in Race 2 after jumping the start.

…Don’t leave Biaggi out Glen. He’s not quite dead yet…
Glen, I think it will be Melandri. Checa’s Ducati is due for a couple of mechanical DNF’s. Remember last year at Miller? He was the fastest guy, he was winning both races, then his Ducati just quit (in both races). I was there and could not believe it. I can only imagine how Checa felt. And how about Biaggi in yesterday’s races? Talk about having a BAD day. He was a wild man and it was pure luck he didn’t take someone out. I hope Haslam can get the BMW to quit fading during the races. He had some great starts and even leading, then starts going backwards.
Who will be the next MotoGP refugee to take home the WSB Championship? Milandri or Checa???!!!
Melandri looks to have taken to the YZF-R1 very well.
He’s doing some fantastic riding, much better than I would have thought. 🙂
