James Stewart Arrested in Florida

According to a report by a local Florida news agency, James Stewart was arrested yesterday afternoon near his home in Florida for impersonating a law enforcement officer, using blue and red flashing lights to pull over a vehicle.  That vehicle contained three real-life law enforcement officers, including two off-duty Florida highway patrol officers and an off-duty police officer, according to the report.  The report also indicates that Stewart confessed to the police, and has been released on bail.  Stewart was arrested along with a passenger in his Toyota pick-up truck.  The passenger allegedly attempted to hide the flashing lights in his luggage when the pair were apprehended at Orlando International airport.

Stewart is currently in fourth place in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series, and he finished in fourth at Saturday’s Canadian round.  Stewart rides a Yamaha for the San Manuel team.  We have asked Yamaha for a comment, and will update this article when we receive one.

    Stick a fork in this dude….he’s done………

  2. Lola says:

Irresponsible and dangerous off the track, too. The AMA should pull his license. He’s not a kid, he’s a paid professional making a lot of money. Only possible explanation is that he’s just an idiot. What a black eye for the AMA.

  3. Tarred says:

    Idiot.

Just shows that brain power does not reign in certain kinds of people.

  4. William says:

    Dumb for sure.
But James is a good guy that had a lamps of judgement.
I’m sorry, but everyone one here has never done anything wrong?
The group sounds more like a bunch of Volvo dirver, not bike riders/owners.

    Santa Cruz, Ca

  5. Bill says:

maybe James and Jason Lawrence can make a sitcom….

  6. Art says:

Sure, it’s a stupid thing to do, but I can’t imagine he had any other motive than to act big – certainly not in the category of getting caught with drugs or beating someone up in a bar. Let’s not get too carried away here. (BTW – I still hope the Ryans kick his behind.)

  7. Happy says:

    You know,

I’m actually very happy to see this video and story:
    http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/crime/os-james-stewart-impersonating-office20110329,0,4277209.story

Why? Because I see law enforcement doing exactly what it is supposed to do, and operating in the very best way possible.

I hope Mr. Stewart is punished like anyone else who acts like such a jackass.

  8. Norm G. says:

what are the odds that the car they would think to prank would have not one…? not two…? but THREE off duty officers…? apparently, pretty damn good…! LOL see, a child’s mind could never fathom the possibility of such a scenario. if i had to guess, i’d say james Sr. is beyond pissed.

  9. Vic says:

Whatever your opinion of the act, actions have consequences. In this case, the disappointment of friends, family and fans are some of those. There will likely be some more serious and lasting ones.

  10. I think James is another example of what CAN happen to people when they’re not allowed to have all of their childhood. Stewart has, no doubt, spent more time on the track as a kid than his friends did just being kids. Granted, his family was dedicated to promoting his amazing talent, but may have overshadowed his youth. Just my humble opinion. I forgive ya’ Bubba, now get your butt on the track and get back at it!!

  11. big bopper says:

One more reason to NEVER compare Ricky Carmichael and Stewart. And sorry folks but there is NO way to excuse this behavior. None, zilch, nada.

  12. Vrooom says:

Lot’s of people seem to be saying he was just trying to get through traffic, but he followed the other vehicle on to the shoulder before passing and warning them to slow down. Clearly this wasn’t about making time through traffic, it was about the power of pretending to be a policeman. While hopefully not the case with Bubba, those who pretend to be police officers have been known to go much further, handcuffing “suspects”. Criminals have used this approach to kidnap and rape women, it isn’t simply a boys will be boys crime. 30 days in jail, loss of license, loss of sponsorships is what should happen. If he’s good enough he’ll earn the sponsorships back after showing he’s mature enough to handle them. Remember his video last year whining about not being chosed for the Moto X Des Nations US team? This certainly makes that look pretty damn petty, along with his 4th place standing in the supercross series.

  13. MamaMX says:

IT’S REALLY JUST SAD!! HE IS AN EXTREMLY TALENTED YOUNG MAN WITH A VERY BRIGHT FUTURE. YOU HAVE TO UNDERTAND WHAT THESE GUYS GIVE UP TO BE WHERE HE IS (MAINLY A CHILDHOOD). NOT SAYING WHAT HE DID WAS NOT STPID. LIKE MOST YOUNG PEOPLE HE JUST WASNT THINKING. JAMES COMES FROM A VERY GOOD, EXTREEMLY CLOSE, AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT STRICT FAMILY. HIS PARENTS HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO ENSURE THEIR KIDS HAVE A BETTER LIFE THEN THEY HAD, JUST LIKE EVERYOTHER PARENT.IT WAS VERY POOR JUDGEMENT ON HIS PART AND IM SURE HE KNOWS THAT. SO ALL OF YOU WISHING ILL WILL ON JAMES IS REALLY ACTING JUST AS STUPID AS HE DID THAT DAY. WE ALL NEED TO SET A GOOD EXAMPLE NOT JUST ATHLETES.
ALL WHO KNOW OR KNOW OF JAMES ARE VERY DISAPOINTEDAND TRUST ME HE KNOWS THAT.

    • Ruefus says:

Get a grip. He’s not a ‘young man’. He’s 25. He knows how the world works. Were he 17 or 18, this *might* have some merit. But he’s 25 years old.

He’s an idiot who apparently makes stupid mental errors in places other than just the racetrack.

      • Norm G. says:

this is one of many negative side-effects of an ever more modern society. many of today’s youth (as a consequence) suffer an “arrested development”. not physically, but mentality. with each passing decade, the on-set of maturity occurs later and later and later. fast forward to 2011, age “25” is now the new “16”.

if given a choice…? to either A: act like an adult…? or B: continue acting like a teenager…? human nature is such that it will choose to “peter pan” 99.9% of the time. i contend this is what we’re seeing. hell, when i was 25…? i had already been married 3 years and was working 2 and 3 jobs to help my wife finish college. there were no multi-million dollar gig’s racin’ motorcycles. not for me anyway.

  14. mxs says:

What a tool …. he must have hit his head to the ground way too hard in Toronto (twice) to come up with something like that. I guess he has never had an aspiration to be a role model.

  15. D-Man says:

“The fastest man on the planet”, not this year. He’s the “Fastest CRASHER on the planet”. He’s not looked consistent as a “racer” all year. Remember, there’s a difference between being fast and being a good racer. Although now, he proves he’s just stupid or just bored and he needs some new excitement. I still believe Stewart’s demise began last year with his pour showing at the Outdoors – he’s given up.

  16. dave says:

The supercross races have actually been quite interesting this year. Many different winners close points race. Always exciting to see where James Stewart will crash this week.

  17. Steve says:

I thought James Stewart died years ago. Does anybody actually watch those races? They are incredibly boring and the same thing over and over again. Get off your butt and go do something.

    • Tom Barber says:

You said what I think but don’t say because it would just be offending people for no reason. I’ve been an avid motorcyclist for more than thirty years, and with the exception of when the vintage races were a special event at Steamboat, I have never had any desire to watch anyone else race or ride a motorcycle. But obviously there are lots of people for whom motorcycle racing has strong appeal as a spectator sport. To each his (or her) own.

    • Jack says:

You don’ t have freaking clue do you?

  18. Lee says:

James messed up. This could be the wake up call he needs to get serious and get the teenage years that he didn’t get to experience behind him. We have all done stupid stuff. Not all of us got caught. The thing to do is man up to it, admit his mistake and move on. Hopefully this should not ruin his career but he will have to live with it from now on. Nothing will be worse for him than facing big James and his mom. That will be tough.

  19. craigj says:

Hmm. No longer riding outdoor motocross, no longer dominant riding supercross. “Youthfull exuberances” leading to arrests off the track. As a sponsor, I’d be looking elsewhere … I’m sure there are more appropriate ways to spend my advertsing and sponsorship dollars, and for the (I’m certain …) several million dollars involved, Bubba is no longer worth the investment.

  20. Steve says:

I watched his “reality” show once on SPEED…. he’s an immature, spoiled brat. Too much money & no idea who he is. He’s been well-trained to say the right things at the right time in front of the right people… & he probably believes that that is how “everyone” operates…. but his behavior on his show & this latest incident prove otherwise….
He should quit racing & get a job with either Paul Sr or Paul Jr! I believe he would fit right in up there. (no offense to the 2 Paul’s)

  21. leroi says:

dumb…just dumb…stupid and dumb..and dumb. Bubba…the name is sure to stick. Did I say it was dumb?

  22. Jack says:

Not that big a deal to me, just a boy being a boy. I already forgive him and hope to forget about it.

    • Warprints says:

It would be a big deal if someone impersonating a cop stopped me, and he /she turned out not to be a cop. It was more than dumb or stupid; depending on exactly what they did, it was dangerous for them.

    • Ruefus says:

25 is not a ‘boy’. He’s been charged with a felony. I doubt this will do much for his ability to stop making silly mental errors on-track.

When he’s on, he’s as fast as Carmichael. But without Carmichael’s consistency or poise.

  23. Here’s a classic example of a “celeb” thinking they’re above normal society. I hope he loses his sponsorship to someone more deserving; someone who knows how to handle & respect the fame! I mean, people did look up to this dope.

This did make my chuckle..can’t wait for the verdict! 🙂

  24. roba says:

    Not condoning the action.
I’d tell my kids “don’t do that”.
    But whatever-

I know plenty of folks that have strobes installed on their vehicles.
And have seen how it’ll sure clear a path in traffic.

The guy was probably late for a flight,
used the lights to get the slowpokes out of the way.

    Yes, it’s illegal.
Yes, he shouldn’t have been late for a flight.
Yes, he’s rich & famous and shouldn’t do idiotic stuff.
But, whatever, there are much worse crimes.
    Just an opinion!

  25. Just Winning says:

It was a lapse in judgment, but it could have been a lot worse. People have been more forgiving to tiger-like slut buckets, DUI offenders, and pedophiles! Give me a break!!! I think he learned his lesson.

  26. Dave says:

He is doing everything in his power to tarnish his reputation.

Between the stupidity and childish antics on Bubba’s World and now this felony act I have lost all respect for James Stewart. I feel foolish rooting for him 100% back 2 years ago when him and Chad Reed had their epic battles. As much as I dislike Reed I still respect him and believe he is worthy of his Championships and fame that comes with supercross, not so much for Stewart.

He had the chance to become bigger than RC but I don’t ever see that happening now.

    Shame on you James!

  27. Roadrash1 says:

    http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/crime/os-james-stewart-impersonating-office20110329,0,4277209.story

James, See if Ricky Carmichael’s parents will take you in for a while. They will get you going straight again…..

    • Norm G. says:

very gracious trooper. i’m suprised she even felt the need to explain why this is a felony…!? kiss that truck goodbye stewart. the irony of it is, he’ll probably have bought another one just like it by the end of the week.

  28. uncle quinn says:

“Dude, this traffic blows! Hey bro, what’s this? Emergency lights? Wow, cool!!!Come on Bubu,Plug them in bro! Serious man, haha, lets make these idiots move the hell over! Haha, OK!!! Haha, look dude, that car is pulling over!! Cool! HAAHAHA…Oh crap dude, those are cops! Dude, lets just get the hell to the airport, put those away!”

……….Just stupid kid stuff with a buddy…Not the crime of the century, not trying to BE A COP. Cops make WAAAYYY less money anyways 🙂

  29. samr says:

One thing about bubba, you never know what your gonna get on and now off the track, but what a dumb move this was.

  30. Simon Evans says:

Insufficient observation through the Rear Window, in his Magic Town. Guess when he got his phonecall he dialled Northside 777. But unlike him, we’ll be On Our Merry Way

    Yes, it’s a Wonderful Life…

    …oh, different James Stewart… 🙂

  31. Philip says:

Somehow this will end up helping his career. Guy has cojones pulling over at least three grown men! Lawyer up Bubba!

    • Katie says:

Stranger things have happened … the Kardashian family has built an empire based on a leaked sex tape.

  32. jack says:

now you know why they call him buba

  33. Vic says:

Hey Frank, you don’t think this is real news? One of the best known motorcycle racers of all time is arrested on a felony charge and you don’t think it’s real news. Okay. This is a motorcycle site, ya know.

  34. Will says:

What a total idiot! I say give his ride to Chad next year

  35. Frank Rose says:

It’s nice to know the Stewart hate here is STILL alive and well. Give it a rest already and find some real news.

    • Ruefus says:

Hate?!?!? The guy pulled over a car and impersonated an officer.

You or I do that – and we’re idiots. That doesn’t change just because it’s James Stewart.

  36. Nomad says:

    Hi-jinxs

can’t wait for the Yamaha response to this….and the spin!

  37. Moonbandito says:

This could be a short Jackass segment. “Hold my beer. I’m gonna go pull over a grandma.”

  38. Danny says:

    Wow. Just wow.

  39. Mickey says:

    How dumb was that?

If he were a football player he’s be a Bengal.
