MV Gets Busy With Anniversary Edition Brutale 990R and New 198 hp F4 RR

If the world is in an economic recession, those consumers at the very top must be doing just fine … or so it would seem. MV Agusta is catering to that market with the announcement of two new products this week, including a Brutale 990R commemorating Italy’s 150th anniversary.  This limited edition model will be available in three color schemes (shown below).

The special Brutale 990R is distinguished by the single seat configuration and the spoiler, featuring the Italian flag colors and the number 150.  The serial number is inscribed on a plate located on the upper steering brace.

Although these special Brutale bikes were announced yesterday, today we received a link to the “teaser video” previewing the new F4 RR, which will be unveiled next week.  The video proclaims that the new RR makes 198 hp (the equivalent of 201 cv).  This is 12 horsepower more than the current 998 cc MV F4.   Of course, the current F4 only does a claimed 190 mph, so it did need a bit of a power boost.

The video provides a glimpse of top shelf components from Ohlins and Brembo (no surprise there), so you might want to raid that retirement fund.  After all, retirement is fleeting, but the sensation of a power wheelie on an MV F4 lasts forever.

    touche…

“busy” is that belly pan and solo seat.

Gorgeous! I was looking at one of these before I got my monster and would have picked one up in a heart beat if there was any kind of dealer network in my area.

So we are now closing in on regular production normally-aspirated engines that make 200 hp per liter. That is pretty amazing. Does that mean that a reliable 500cc motor with 100 hp should also be feasible? Or are the latest 600cc rockets on the market already exceeding the (claimed) specific power output of the new F4 RR?

    • MikeD says:

If you are talking about Hp per Liter output, then yes.
600 Supersports have(for some time now, 3 years?) been producing a bit over 200Hp per liter. Far superior to anything available from the 1000’s until pretty soon if this “arms race” continues…i hope it does…and they don’t put a cap on it as they did with the 186Mph TopSpeed Joke.

As for a 500cc engine making 100hp, well, i imagine i wouldn’t be that difficult, specially if it’s an I-4,v-4,I-6(u get the drift, muchos cylinders).
I wouldn’t have a clue as to how reliable/resiliant it could be made to be at that HP level…but i ain’t no engineer, just talking out of my lower back and throwing it out there.

I remember with almost every bike I’ve owned since 1970, thinking how is it gonna last at those revs. Amazing that we have reliable 15,000 plus rpm bikes that you don’t have to check valve clearances until over 10,000 miles or so (way over on some bikes like my 26,600 mile FZ1 interval).

    • Chris says:

I want to say that when Yamaha’s R6 debuted way back in 1999, they were claiming 200 hp per liter for it… 120 hp at the crank…

      120 / 0.6 = 200

      Claims versus reality though…

Doesn’t BMW claim 194 hp for their S1000RR? Over 170 of that hp makes it to the tire too.

  5. marko says:

Nice bike but 198hp- this stuff is getting out of control!!!

    • Bill says:

I realize….my KLR squeezes out somewhere south of 40bhp…and it still gives me a grin everytime ride it…and it was only 2500 bucks (probably the cost of one rim on the brutale)

Warnig! The following writing may be considered a Rant, please, don’t let it fool u.
The writer only intended to talk about the less talked colors of the “Motorcycle Spectrum”.

Nah, not really, it would be out of control if someone forced u to ride it with a gun pointing at your head and have u kill yourself on IT… BUT …since that won’t happen(hope not) it would be alright even if it had 300HP.
Choices People, is good to have choices, one man’s TRASH is another one’s GOLD. Let’s us not forget it.
Too much POWAA? There’s plenty of “normal powered, affordable” bikes out there to choose from.

P.S: Im sure u would be a happy camper at France where all our High HP Bikes here are limited to 100hp over there. LMAO, whats the point on owning a VMAX or S1000RR over there ? Ahh, BIG Brother always telling u whats best for u ROCKS(NOT!).

P.S.2: And before someone say it, please allow me…i can’t probably PROPERLY use a 15hp Motorcycle and YET…i own a 120 one…cause i like it and don’t care what “society” says or thinks i “sould be ALLOWED” to ride…now thats happy camper material or SQUID(by other’s book) LMAO.

  6. Wilson R says:

I don’t know about you, but I’m not getting out my checkbook until it produces 300 hp. Shouldn’t be too long of a wait…

    • MikeD says:

+1. I heard they are working on a GDI Turbo’d RRR version pushing 350hp + to the wheel.
And for those of us not being enough they have an optional Dry NO2 System pushing 100hp more hidden inside the air box.
And all this money burning holes on my pockets and they can’t push it out the door soon enough…it blows to be rich. (^_^ )

  7. monsterduc1000 says:

Looks like it might just be a seat cover, not a single seat. Otherwise, yeah, what is the point.

  8. Steve says:

Now that’s a motorcycle that insecure men will buy to impress other insecure men.

    • MikeD says:

      I say:

If the shoe fits AND u can AFFORD IT…wear IT. Nothing WRONG with our own individual tastes and needs…in the end…no ones gives a heck about u and ur life but urself…and so it should be.

2K11 700Hp Aventador AWD. Should i not buy it for fear of what others would think of me even if i were to be a filfthy rich guy and able to afford such toy ?
Of course not! We all like the good fancy stuff. We just can’t afford all of it or any(like me).
P.S: If we happen to have a milionare reading here in our little group of readers….forget u, u sure can afford it and then some.

  9. ABQ says:

I like that they have real handle bars on them. You won’t be going 190mph hour while sitting upright as a proper gentleman, but you will smoke whoever is next to you at the stop light. And I like that they make no pretense that any woman would ever ride as your passenger. Yes, you will be very fast, but very very lonely. That’s the price for being in a class by yourself.

  10. Tim says:

The Brutale is still the best looking bike made, even though it’s been around for several years. I assume the sound remains as glorious as ever, as well.

If only they had a more extensive dealer network…

  11. Bill says:

they should have named this bike the 401k

  12. MikeD says:

Ok, someone clarify this for me:
This is not a completely new bike but rather the same “still fresh”(1Year Old or less?) F4 bike with a even higher strung engine + bits and pieces even more upscale, Right ?

Still pretty sweet piece of machine ! It blows to be poor, sniff sniff…(T_T )

    • Stinky says:

Where’s the trust fund when you need it. We could show ’em how to spend it. My friends got a Brutale that just got the break in miles on it, then I get a turn. I prefer twins but all that 4 power hasta be a buzz like cocaine. What a rush, then the cops show up or you run outta road.

  13. Mickey says:

Beautiful motorycles (ugly belly pans though). Why have passenger pegs with a single seat configuration?

    • blackcayman says:

Good call on the Belly Pan – No “Italian Design” on that piece. Still good looking but in need of a redesign.

  14. kpaul says:

Pretty bike. I’ll take mine in black please 🙂
