The same riders riding at the front the last few rounds of the MotoGP series were fast during Friday practice for Sunday’s race at Laguna Seca. Defending champ Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) set the quickest lap time, just ahead of the three Honda factory riders Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso. Those four were followed by Ben Spies (Yamaha) and Marco Simoncelli (Honda).
The Ducatis continue to struggle as Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi recorded the tenth and eleventh quickest lap times. Apparently, both Ducati factory riders are using the chassis developed for next year’s 1000cc machine this weekend at Laguna. Both Rossi and Hayden have won here in the past, and Hayden likely has more laps at this track than any other MotoGP rider.
American Ben Bostrom is coming to grips with his guest ride aboard the satellite Honda this weekend, and he recorded the slowest lap in each of the two practice sessions earlier today.
A bit disappointed Spies missed the front row. Stoner admits he’s still around 2 tenths slower than Pedrosa and Lorenzo on race pace, unless his squad finds something on the Sunday morning warm-up. Rossi qualified 7th. Shocking!!
Heart wants Spies to win (I’m not American, btw)… Head says Pedrosa (ugh… Puig).
Slightly off-topic:
Those Yamahas with their red-white livery and Akra pipes sure look gorgeous!! Remove the Petronas stickers and they’d be perfect.

Go Ben!
Ben Bostrom rides in the 24 Hours of Moab, solo, and places third, behind two pro cyclists. Therefore Ben is cooler than anyone on the GP grid.
Surely then Cadel Evans is even COOLER!!! Bodacious duuuuude.
Ben Bostrom was a waste of space.
