A year ago, Mercedes AMG became a sponsor of the Ducati MotoGP team with hints at future, extensive cooperation between the two luxury brands. The first Ducati motorcycle arising from that partnership is the one pictured here, the Diavel AMG Special Edition. The bike will be shown in the flesh for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show beginning September 15.
Set off by the engraved name of the engine technition on the left side engine casing and a numbered plaque on the fuel tank, the bike starts as a Diavel Carbon, and receives the following unique features:
“… the exclusive new Diavel AMG Special Edition is dressed in matte black carbon fibre bodywork with AMG’s very own “Diamond White Bright” stripe and frame colour contrasted with black wheels. The special edition wheels, seat and exhaust end-caps are all AMG branded while “AMG” is also laser-engraved into the air-duct panels either side of the fuel tank. The Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition and exclusively designed leather jacket and helmet apparel will be available in early 2012, with orders opening to coincide with the first public showing at the Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany.”
Here is the full press release:
Ducati and Mercedes AMG have proudly announced that the first public showing of the Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition will be at the 64th International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany from 15-25 September. The 2012 flagship model of the Diavel family is a tribute to the AMG luxury-sport brand and is intended for passionate connoisseurs of technology, engineering detail and exclusive style.
Ducati’s unique cooperation with Mercedes AMG was first announced at the 2010 Los Angeles Motor Show with a sponsorship agreement for the Ducati MotoGP Team which perfectly demonstrated the shared brand values of high performance, motorsport and excitement. The association soon developed into a rich strategy of co-marketing activities and the Diavel AMG Special Edition now represents the first “co-inspired” model, elegantly combining distinctive styling features from both famous marques.
Based upon the Diavel Carbon, the Diavel AMG Special Edition features AMG’s signature 5-spoke wheel styling, carbon fibre lateral radiator grills with aluminium trim, AMG-style sport exhaust system with engraved end-caps and AMG-style horizontally ribbed seat upholstered in Alcantara®. The model’s incredible attention to performance detail also ensures that every engine has its Desmodromic cam-timing set by hand and authenticated with the name of the engine technician engraved on the left-side engine casing. Further underlining the model’s exclusivity, each motorcycle will have a numbered plaque on the fuel tank.
The award-winning Ducati Diavel has had massive first-year success for the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, its bold design merging the worlds of power and style with absolute precision to set a new industry standard for the segment. Ducati’s awesome Testastretta 11° engine combined with their famous chassis technology and a specially engineered 240 section rear tyre delivers mind-blowing performance balanced with user-friendly comfort and safety-enhancing electronics.
Hand-built – as with all Ducati motorcycles – the exclusive new Diavel AMG Special Edition is dressed in matte black carbon fibre bodywork with AMG’s very own “Diamond White Bright” stripe and frame colour contrasted with black wheels. The special edition wheels, seat and exhaust end-caps are all AMG branded while “AMG” is also laser-engraved into the air-duct panels either side of the fuel tank. The Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition and exclusively designed leather jacket and helmet apparel will be available in early 2012, with orders opening to coincide with the first public showing at the Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany.
Looks like they outsourced to an eleven year old comic book collector. But even if it’s ugly at least it’s impractical. Nothing like a 150mph motorcycle that you can’t ride 30 miles on the freeway without your arms getting tired.
whatever that thing that he ran over with his rear tire is still stuck to it! Better hire a photographer with better attention to detail.
So we stopped production on the Buell Lightning here in the USA and put people out of work, so we can then import and sell more expensive motorcycles like this over here.. really.
When they were being made, people didn’t buy very many Buells. “We” didn’t close Buell. The Market did that when Buell failed to produce enough of something the Market wanted.
Again with the “B” thing…can’t we let old “B” just rest peacefully on it’s casquet 6ft under ? Or even better…focus on the new “B”…that one seems to be alive(somehow) and kicking. Thanks.
“focus on the new “B”…that one seems to be alive(somehow) and kicking.”
I would if I could AFFORD it!
Ok,ok…point taken. lol.
I own a black Diavel. You guys should ride one. It’s a bike that can go toe to toe with the other sport bikes and then take a nice cruise later with your Harley buddies. Amazing machine.
Uhm … the mirrors look decent.
Great job Ducati, almost as ugly as a V-max!
Hey…HEY!…Lay off the VMAX…mess with Luigi’s Desmo Monster but leave Taro-San’s V4 Tank alone. LOL.
Ok….so….it’s a bike dressed to the 9’s with no performance enhancement to speak of? Oh…the technition gets his name on the case, ‘scuse me.
Weak debut of two names synonymous with high-performance.
The bike is nothing more than a marketing device for upcoming clothing line, where Ducati will make the real money.
‘technition’, guys? Really?
Thank you! I was about to say the same thing…
Fugly, fugly, fugly.
looks like a VMax wannabe
What it needs is more LED lights…on the mirrors, and put on some hand guards w/ LEDs. And, have those lights spell AMG so the bike doubles in price without any significant improvement.
It’s the first Ugly AMG I’ve seen. Saw my first Diavel a few weeks ago and it is even uglier in person And this is from the company that gave us the 916.
Wow, the minions of social-media-intervention
are out in full force!
How on Earth could something resembling an unwashed Fat Buttocks,
from any angle, possibly be beautiful?
IMO That thing deserves a better(sexier) styling.
What a shame…
Butt-Friggin’-Ugly but, capable doesn’t cut it.
Sexy and Kick-Ass is the way to go.
Hopefully, like the multistrada, the 2nd-gen might get better looks.
I’ll pass on this one.
The Ducati Drivel
Humm, B-King tricked out?
This would look good next to my 2012 MB SLS AMG, don’t you think?
Post a pic of it with you holding a handwritten sign that says, “suck it brinskee” and then I’ll believe you. 🙂
LMFAO. U took the cake with that one. LMAO.
Now THAT’s funny!
Goin’ out to get my QuickPic tix.
yeah this is a cruiser alright……..get off it …it is a muscle naked bike!
