Motorcycling lost a great champion yesterday when five-time World Enduro Champion Mika Ahola of Finland passed away. Ahola was 37 years old, and succumbed to injuries sustained during a practice crash in Girona, Spain a few weeks ago. At the time of his passing he was in a hospital in Barcelona.
Ahola had several records in World Enduro racing, including five straight championships covering all three displacement categories (E1, E2 and E3). He was also the oldest WEC champ, having obtained his final title in 2011, just prior to announcing his retirement from Enduro racing just two weeks ago on New Year’s Day 2012.
Rest in peace Mika.
