Yamaha Racings’ SX Race Recap & Results – Houston

JGRMX’s Davi Millsaps posted his best result of the 2012 AMA Supercross series (also an FIM World Championship) when he secured second position at the thirteenth round of seventeen at the Reliant Stadium in Houston.

Millsaps guided his YZ450F to yet another holeshot in front of almost 49,000 spectators and although he was powerless to prevent champion Ryan Villopoto surging ahead on the first lap he settled into a rhythm to finish over four seconds ahead of Jake Weimer. The 24 year old’s latest piece of silverware represents Yamaha’s eighth top three finish of the campaign.

“My starts have been on point and I think that makes a huge difference in this game,” he said. “It’s nice going into the break to know that I’m moving up in the points like this and I just want to keep it up heading into the outdoors.”

Millsaps has now pushed up to third in the 2012 standings ahead of team-mate James Stewart. The former champion made a late return to the fold in Texas after recovering sufficiently from his heat race crash at Indianapolis. Stewart entered the Main Event but a poor start and then a fall after landing heavily on a table-top jump forced his withdrawal. “It was a big get-off but somehow I don’t have a scratch on me,” he was able to write on his Twitter account afterwards.

Villopoto successfully defended his crown at Houston but with Ryan Dungey absent through injury Millsaps has a fantastic chance to seal the runner-up position in the 2012 contest as he sits just one point behind the 2010 number one. Stewart is fifth and thirteen points adrift of third.

Just four rounds remain in the championship and for the first time this year the teams and riders will enjoy a free weekend. Round fourteen takes place on Saturday April 14th at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
