Marco Melandri (BMW) won a near photo finish over Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia) in race 1 at Portimao yesterday, with Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) finishing third. In race 2, Eugene Laverty (Aprilia) took the win with a comfortable margin over Guintoli, while Jonathan Rea (Honda) finshed third. After 6 rounds, Guintoli has the championship points lead.

I missed the DVR but love this track. but it seemed that Laverty had a chance to get the double except for a mechanical issue in race #1. His teammate is riding way too consistently. I’ve been rooting for Eugene ever since he just got edged out of his WSS title over recurring mechanical issues as well. I’m sure Guintoli is happy he dissed Suzuki now…
