Moscow saw some inclement weather earlier today that contributed to the tragic loss of a young racer’s life in the WSS event held between the first and second WSB races. WSS rider Andrea Antonelli (Kawasaki) was struck by another rider whose vision was impaired by the wet conditions, critically injuring Antonelli who passed away at 2:10 p.m. local time. MD expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Andrea Antonelli.
WSB held its first race before the tragedy, and Marco Melandri (BMW) took the win ahead of second place Chaz Davies (BMW) and third place Ayrton Badobini (Ducati). Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia) leads the championship points.
