Two New Venues Added for 43rd Season
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (November 7, 2013) – Following another extremely successful racing season, MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Sports, a division of the NBC Sports Group, announce the 2014 schedule for the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. Making its highly anticipated return to Lucas Oil Pro Motocross, the Glen Helen National will kick off the season Saturday, May 24 in San Bernardino, Calif. The 12-round series will then make stops throughout the summer at premier motocross facilities in the country, while introducing a brand new venue in Indiana before concluding with the Utah National in Tooele, Utah on August 23.
Joining the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship for the first time is the Midwest’s Indiana National in Crawfordsville, Ind., serving as the penultimate round in 2014. Lucas Oil Pro Motocross’ newest venue has played host to a round of the Grand National Cross Country Series for nearly 20 years.
Many of the series’ traditional stops return in 2014, including Hangtown, Thunder Valley, High Point, Budds Creek, RedBud, Spring Creek, Washougal and Unadilla. Additionally, following two highly successful inaugural events, both the Tennessee and Utah Nationals return to the 2014 schedule. The world-class venues included in the 2014 season will provide returning fans and new guests the chance to witness the fastest racers on the planet in head-to-head competition, while enjoying a day outside interacting with elite series sponsors.
“It has long been our goal to present the most legendary, spectacular tracks in American motocross on the schedule, as well as mixing in a few new facilities to add diversity to the schedule and new challenges for the best riders in the world,” said MX Sports Pro Racing President Davey Coombs. “In 2013 we presented new rounds in Tennessee and Utah, both performed even better than we hoped. Now we look forward to yet another new venue in Indiana, as well as the return of the iconic Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California as the 2014 opener. Adding those events in with such premier motocross tracks as RedBud, Unadilla, Washougal, Hangtown and more, and you have the makings of an exciting summer of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross for fans all over the country.”
The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is the pinnacle of professional motocross racing, attracting the world’s most talented athletes to compete on the country’s toughest and most scenic motocross tracks.
Reigning 450 Class Champion, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, will look to defend his Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship crown during the 2014 season, while 250 Class Champion Eli Tomac makes his move to the 450 Class. Additionally, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey will be joined by former world champion Ken Roczen in the 450 Class, while former champions James Stewart and Chad Reed, along with Trey Canard, all hope to return to the top of the leader board. Add in Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia, Villopoto’s Kawasaki teammate Jake Weimer, Toyota/JGR Yamaha’s Josh Grant and Justin Brayton, plus a talented pack of up-and-comers and you have what must be considered one of the most competitive fields in motocross history.
