Monster Energy Supercross Notes Package Race 3: Anaheim, California Angel Stadium of Anaheim

450SX Class Stats: Anaheim

The first 450SX Class points paying race held in Anaheim was on December 4, 1976, and Marty Smith won the race on a Honda.

This race marks the 65th time the gate will drop for a 450SX Class race in Anaheim.

From 2001-2010 and 2013-2014 Anaheim hosted three 450SX Class races. In 2011-2012 they hosted two races. The 2015 Monster Energy Supercross season will mark the 13th time Anaheim has hosted three races.

Anaheim holds the record for most 450SX Class points paying races. After the 2015 450SX Class season is completed, Anaheim will have hosted 66 total 450SX Class races.

Anaheim has hosted a 450SX Class race in every Supercross season with the exception of: ’74, ’75 ’80, ’88, ’97, and ’98.
Ken Roczen has never finished off the podium in his four Anaheim 450SX Class starts.

Kevin Windham gave Honda their last Anaheim 450SX Class victory in 2005. Honda has gone 26 straight 450SX Class races in Anaheim without a win.

Ryan Dungey gave KTM their first Anaheim 450SX class victory at the third race in Anaheim in 2013.
The third race that was held in Anaheim in 2013 was KTM’s first-ever event sweep. Roczen won the 250SX Class and Dungey won the 450SX Class.

450SX Class Recap: Phoenix

The first six riders in last week’s Main Event represented six different manufactures, Honda, Suzuki, KTM, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Husqvarna.

 

Eli Tomac made his 15th career 450SX Class start and became the 58th different rider to win a 450SX Class race with his victory in Phoenix. The win was his third career podium and fifth career top five.

 

For the ninth time in supercross history, there were first time winners in both classes. Tomac and Webb accomplished this feat with their victories in Phoenix. The last time this happened was in Atlanta on February 23, 2008 when Trey Canard won his first 250SX Class race followed by Davi Millsaps winning his first 450SX Class race. The first time this happened was on January 27, 1990 when Mike Craig won the 250SX Class race followed by Damon Bradshaw winning the 450SX Class.

 

Tomac becomes the 18th different rider to win his first 450SX Class race on a Honda. Only Yamaha has as many first time winners with 18 also. Justin Barcia is the last rider to win his first race on a Honda.

 

Ken Roczen earned a second place finish to start his season off with back-to-back podiums. It was his 11th career 450SX Class podium, and he now has 21 top-10 finishes in 23 career 450SX Class starts.

 

Ryan Dungey earned his first podium of the season with a third. It was his 58th career 450SX Class podium in his 85th career 450SX Class start. He also has 75 career top-five finishes in those 85 starts.

 

Dungey now has six consecutive seasons with a podium.

 

Weston Peick earned a career-best fourth place finish in Phoenix. It was his third career top-five finish and 18th 450SX Class top-10 finish.

 

Davi Millsaps earned a fifth place finish in Phoenix. It was his 54th career 450SX Class top-five finish.

 

Jason Anderson earned a sixth-place finish In Phoenix in just his second career 450SX Class start.

 

Andrew Short made his 109th career 450SX Start and earned a seventh place finish. He has finished fifth and seventh in the first two races of the season.

 

Trey Canard finished in eighth place in Phoenix. He is one of seven riders who have been in the top ten for both races. Dungey, Roczen, Anderson, Peick, Short, and Chad Reed are the others.

 

Chad Reed made his 172nd career 450SX Class start in Phoenix and earned a 10th-place finish. The 10th-place finish was his 163rd 450SX Class top 10 finish of his career. The 172nd start puts him alone in fifth on the all-time 450SX Class start list. He can tie Jeremy McGrath at 173 this weekend.

 
250SX Class Stats: Anaheim

The first 250SX Class points paying race held in Anaheim was on February 2, 1985, and Mike Healy won the race on a Suzuki.

This will be the 57th time the gate will drop for a 250SX Class race in Anaheim.

Just like the 450SX Class, Anaheim holds the record for 250SX Class races held.

250SX Class Recap: Phoenix

Cooper Webb made his 11th career 250SX Class start and became the 98th different rider to win a 250SX Class race; it was his fourth career podium and first-ever win.

Webb became the 19th different rider to win his first 250SX Class race on a Yamaha. The last rider to do so was Jeremy Martin last season.

Webb’s win breaks Yamaha’s 14 season 250SX Class losing streak in Phoenix. Ernesto Fonseca was the last rider to win the 250SX Class in Phoenix on a Yamaha.

Malcolm Stewart made his 34th career 250SX Class start and earned a career-best second-place finish. It was his fourth career podium and 12th career top five.

Jessy Nelson, a week removed from his first career 250SX Class victory, earned his second career podium in as many races. It was his fourth career top-five finish and 17th career 250SX Class start.

Tyler Bowers earned his seventh career 250SX Class top-five finish in his 16th career 250SX Class start. He is one of just three riders to have a top-five finish in both 250SX Class races this season. The other two are Nelson and Aaron Plessinger.

Plessinger, making just his second career start, earned a fifth place finish for back-to-back fifth place finishes to start his career.

Justin Hill earned a sixth place finish in Phoenix. It was his 15th career 250SX Class top-10 finish in almost as many starts. In 17 career 250SX Class Main Events, Hill has finished in the top 10 in all but a 16th place finish in St. Louis in 2013 and a DNS in Toronto in 2013.

Zach Osborne was able to add another top-10 finish to his already respectable 250SX Class career. With his seventh place finish in Phoenix, Osborne now has 22 top-10 finishes in 32 career 250SX Class starts.
