450SX Class Stats: Las Vegas
The first 450SX Class race held in Las Vegas was on March 17, 1990, and Jeff Mataisevich won on a Kawasaki.

This will be the 25th time the gate will drop for a 450SX Class race in Sam Boyd Stadium.

There has been a 450SX Class race in Las Vegas in every season since ’90, except for ’96.

There have been thirteen different riders to win the 450SX Class race in Las Vegas.  Jeremy McGrath and Chad Reed are tied for the most 450SX Class wins in Las Vegas with four each. Ryan Villopoto is the only rider to have three wins in Las Vegas.

Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, and Ryan Dungey are the only riders with two 450SX Class victories in Las Vegas.

McGrath was the first rider to win Las Vegas back-to-back in the 450SX Class. He won three in-a-row from ’98-’00. Carmichael (’01-’02), Stewart (’06-’07), and Villopoto (’13-’14) are the only other riders to have back-to-back wins in the 450SX Class in Las Vegas. Nobody has won three straight since McGrath.

Yamaha won five straight 450SX Class races in Las Vegas from ’95-’00.

From ’93-’02, there were 156 different 450SX Class races held. McGrath only missed one of them, which was in Las Vegas in ’95.

In ’97, Doug Henry made history when he won the 450SX Class race in Las Vegas on a Yamaha four stroke. It was the first time a four stroke had ever won a 450SX Class race.

There have been three riders to win their first 450SX Class race in Las Vegas: Mataisevich did it in the first Las Vegas supercross in ’90, supercross legend Mike LaRocco did it the next season in ’91, and ’97’s 450SX Class Champion Jeff Emig won his first 450SX Class race in Las Vegas in ’95.

The winner of the 450SX Class race in Las Vegas won the 450SX Class Championship that same season 11 of 24 seasons. Six of those 11 are either McGrath or Carmichael.

For seven consecutive seasons, the winner of the 450SX Class in Las Vegas has had a first or last name starting with an ‘R’. Can somebody break this trend?

450SX Class: Wins By Brand in Las Vegas (Last Win)
Yamaha: 8 (’08)
Kawasaki: 7 (’14)

Honda: 6 (’11)
Suzuki: 2 (’10)

KTM: 1 (’12)

450SX Class Recap: East Rutherford

Eli Tomac earned his third win of the season and of his career in East Rutherford. Honda now has six 450SX Class wins on the season.

Dungey earned a second place finish in East Rutherford. It was his 15th straight podium finish. He will be making his 100th career 450SX Class start in Las Vegas. Dungey also tied Stewart with 87 career top-five finishes in the 450SX Class.

Can Dungey give KTM their first Las Vegas win since ’12? Dungey is also looking to earn his eighth win of ’15 on his 100th career 450SX Class start.

Can Dungey and Marvin Musquin combine to break Stewart and Villopoto’s ’07 record of five sweeps by the same riders?

Cole Seely finished third in East Rutherford. It was his seventh consecutive top-five finish and 10th top-five finish of the season.

Blake Baggett rode to a fourth place finish. It was his fourth top-five finish of the season.

Andrew Short finished fifth in East Rutherford for his third top-five finish of the season. It was his 47th career 450SX Class top-five finish.

Broc Tickle earned a sixth-place finish in East Rutherford. It was his 12th top-10 finish of the season.

Josh Grant finished seventh for his eighth top-10 finish of the season. He was the highest placing Kawasaki rider in East Rutherford.

Kyle Chisholm earned his first top-10 finish since race 14 of ’12. He now has 17 450SX Class career top-10 finishes.

Jason Anderson finished ninth place in East Rutherford. It was his 13th top-10 finish of the season and his career.

Weston Peick rounded out the top-10 in East Rutherford with his 13th top-10 finish of the season.

Shane McElrath, making his first-career 450SX Class start, finished 11th place.

Nick Wey, making his 184th career 450SX Class start finished 12th.

In the 2015 season, KTM has 14 wins between the 250SX and 450SX Classes. The all-time record for combined wins in a season is 25 in ’91 for Honda. In ’07, Kawasaki amassed 24 wins. This is by far the best season in KTM supercross history.

Can we see another first time winner in the 450SX Class? Only three other riders have their first career wins in Las Vegas.

250SX Class Stats: Las Vegas
The first 250SX Class race held in Las Vegas was on March 17, 1990. McGrath won on a Kawasaki.

This will be the 25th season the gate will drop for a 250SX Class race in Las Vegas.

From ’90-’95 the 250SX Class race in Las Vegas was exclusively a Western Regional Championship race.

After the series took a break from Las Vegas in ’96, it returned in ’97 as the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout, which combined the top talent in both regionals for an exhibition Main Event. The race was held with the 450SX Class race running as usual.

From ’11-’14, the 250SX Class race in Las Vegas took another gigantic step, hosting the ninth race for both the Eastern and Western Regional 250SX Classes along with the shootout that was held after the separate 250SX Class races. In ’15, the Las Vegas 250SX Class race will just host a Shootout for the first time since ’10.

In Las Vegas’ 250SX Class history, there have been 10 Western Regional races (’90-’95; ’11-’14), four Eastern Regional races (’11-’14), and 18 East/West Shootouts (’97-Current). In  total there have been 32 different 250SX Class races held in Las Vegas, with only 14 of them counting towards the Championship Standings.

In the 18 shootouts in Las Vegas, the East and West are tied with nine wins apiece.

A coast has never won three shootouts in a row. The Western Regional could do it this season as they have won the shootout the past two seasons.

The champion of either 250SX Class coast has only won the shootout that season eight times out of 18 shootouts. From ’00-’08 only one champion won the shootout the same season. For four of the past six seasons a champion from that season did win the shootout.

Five riders won their first 250SX Class races in Las Vegas. Most notably McGrath, who won the first 250SX Class race held In Las Vegas. He went on to win the 250SX Class in Vegas from ’90-’92. Short was the second rider to win his first 250SX Class race in Vegas, which he did in the shootout of ’03. He would also win the shootout in ’06. Ken Roczen won his first 250SX Class race in Vegas in the West Main Event of ’11, Tyler Bowers did it in the East Main Event of ’13, and Jeremy Martin also did it in the East Main Event but in ’14.

250SX Class Recap: East Rutherford

Musquin earned his 10th career 250SX Class victory in East Rutherford. Musquin won six of the eight Eastern Regional races this season.

Musquin also clinched the 2015 Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship. The championship was KTM’s third 250SX Class Championship but first time they took the crown on the East Coast.

Musquin has now capped off a spectacular 250SX Class career. In his 27 career 250SX Class starts, he won 10 races, finished on the podium 19 times, finished in the top-five 22 times, and only finished outside of the top-10 three times.

Musquin is now the fourth Frenchman to win a 250SX title. The other riders to do this are Mickael Pichon, Stephane Roncada, and Christophe Pourcel.

Justin Bogle rode to a runner-up finish in East Rutherford. It was his fourth second-place finish of the season and his seventh podium of the season. The only race Bogle did not podium in he finished fourth. Bogle finished second to Musquin in the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship Standings.

Bogle now has 25 career 250SX Class starts, three victories, 16 podiums, 20 top-five finishes, and has only finished outside of the top-10 twice.
