The World GP Bike Legends held an event at Jerez this weekend, which included three 500 GP (yes, two-strokes) races involving retired stars of the two-stroke era, including Freddie Spencer, Kevin Schwantz and Wayne Gardner, among several others. In fact, these are the three individuals who won the three races, Gardner winning on Saturday, while Spencer and Schwantz each won a race on Sunday. A very cool event, and you can follow this link to the Cycle News story for more details.
If you just want to re-live the era a bit, and hear the old two-strokes ridden in anger, take a look at the two videos below.
Who cares if it was fixed !!Enjoy the event and stop being p-ssies
I want to say this is cool, but it’s awful. Its like watching a fighter jet fly around the pattern. What a snooze-fest! Either go for it like the old days or leave them in the museum. I was hoping it would be alot cooler.

I’m going to allow it. these are 500’s. you mess with a BULL, you’ll get the HORNS.
These are vintage racebikes…you would rather see them balled up rather than get to enjoy them occassionally being ridden by their original pilots?
Great to see the rear view from the bikes tail as the blue smoke plumed out the back. I mean, I’m pro earth and everything, but that was cool. Yea, races were fixed, Schwantz could toast all others if he wanted/was allowed. Cool event.
see, there IS a race series for 50 year olds, and it’s cooler than all the other race series. 🙂
very cool
Aah, the good old days when engine braking was a bug, not a feature.
that was funny
Ahh! Can almost smell them. You know they were “getting around” pretty good as we used to say and all of them still look faster now then I ever was on the track. Thanks for posting this, it left me with a big grin under my headphones.
Thanks for posting the videos, much appreciated.
Now I’m not going to say the results of those three races were fixed, but…they were fixed. 🙂
You said you weren’t going to say it.
Yep!
Shhhhh!
Yeah, but pretty damn cool regardless. Nothing on the track beats the sound and smell of a V-4 500 smoker hitting the pipes IMHO!
One of my favorite youtube vids is Freddie Spencer on a 2 stroke 500 racing a car and a street bike around 1 lap of Laguna Seca. freddie doesnt even have his gloves or helmet on as the car takes off then the street bike,. As they race around the course he dons his helmet and gloves and then catches and beats both with a giant wheelie at the end. Pretty amazing to watch.
Fantastic stuff.
That was a cool video!
Cool! Back when men were men and sheep were….never mind. That would have been great to attend!
Didn’t even know this was taking place. Cool!
