Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Statistical Report: Red Bull RedBud National

Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship
Series Statistical Report

Red Bull RedBud National
RedBud MX – Buchanan, Michigan
Saturday, July 4

  • This is the 42nd running of the Red Bull RedBud National.
  • RedBud is the site of one of the most iconic obstacles in American Motocross. LaRocco’s Leap, named for Hall of Famer and local hero Mike LaRocco, is a 120-foot uphill triple jump that has been around for more than two decades.
  • RedBud has hosted a national surrounding the Independence Day holiday weekend since 1978.
  • This will be the sixth time the event has been held on the Fourth of July. Past years include 1982, 1992, 1999, 2004 and most recently 2009.
  • Only five foreign-born riders have won (in either 250 or 450 Class) at RedBud – Chad Reed (450 Class), Sebastien Tortelli (450 Class), Ken Roczen (450 Class & 250 Class), Grant Langston (250 Class) and Stephane Roncada (250 Class). Ken Roczen is the only one to do so in each class.
  • Justin Barcia became the 64th different 450 Class winner in history with his victory at the previous round. He also has the most Motosport.com Holeshot Awards in 2015 with four.
  • The Joe Gibbs Racing MX team earned its first Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship overall win at RedBud in 2009 with Josh Grant. Barcia provided the team with just its second ever victory at the previous round, one week shy of exactly six-years between wins.
  • Ryan Dungey’s 12th in Moto 2 at the previous round was the first time he finished outside the top 10 this season and the first time he failed to finish on the overall podium in 2015.
  • With four different overall winners through the first six rounds, the 2015 season in the 450 Class has seen the most parity up to this point since five riders claimed victories during the first half of the 2009 season.
  • Seven different riders have earned overall podium finishes in the 450 Class so far this season. Christophe Pourcel joined this group at the previous round.
  • Nine different riders have earned overall podium finishes in the 250 Class so far this season. Alex Martin and Joey Savatgy joined this group at the previous round.
  • Alex Martin became the first inaugural moto winner this season, breaking Marvin Musquin and Jeremy Martin’s dominance of winning the first 10 motos of the season.
  • Jeremy Martin is the only rider in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship to finish inside the top 10 in every moto this season, yet he trails Musquin by 10 points thanks to Musquin’s series-leading seven moto wins.

450 Class Stats

  • The first Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship race held at RedBud was July 28, 1974. Kenny Zahrt won on a Bultaco, marking the last Pro Motocross win for that manufacturer. Michigan native Mike Hartwig won the 500cc division the same year.
  • This marks the 35th time the gate will drop on a 450 Class race at RedBud.
  • Marty Tripes won his last Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship race at RedBud in 1979.
  • Jeff Ward won at RedBud in every division of his era, on 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc bikes.
  • Jeff Stanton is the only Michigan native to win a 450 Class overall at RedBud. Mike Hartwig is the only Michigan native to win in the 500cc division.
  • Ricky Carmichael captured seven consecutive wins in the 450 Class at RedBud on three different brands of motorcycles – Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki.
  • Only five riders in the 450 Class have more than one win at RedBud – Ryan Dungey, Ricky Carmichael, Jeff Emig, Mike Kiedrowski and Rick Johnson.
  • Each of Dungey’s wins at RedBud came during his championship-winning seasons in 2010 and 2012.
  • Last year Ken Roczen became just the third international rider to win in the 450 Class at RedBud.
  • Roczen became the eighth rider to win in both the 250 and 450 Classes at RedBud with his victory in 2014. The other riders include Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Ricky Carmichael, Kevin Windham, Jeff Emig, Mike Kiedrowski, and Jeff Ward. Blake Baggett can add his name to that list after earning two wins in the 250 Class at RedBud.
  • Roczen could become the first repeat winner in the 450 Class at RedBud since 2007 (Ricky Carmichael).
