Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo took pole position for tomorrow’s Misano MotoGP race with a new lap record. He will be joined on the front row by Honda’s Marc Marquez and his teammate Valentino Rossi, who currently holds the championship points lead. All 3 riders posted times very close to each other, so it could be a very competitive race. Stay tuned.

Wow! Hell must finally be frozen over, because Rossi FINALLY got penalized for one of his numerous infractions. Hallelujah! WAY too late for Sete, Casey, and Marc, but it’s about time!

No, the penalty point does not apply to the points standings in the championship.
How does it apply?
It’s just within the races; for example, four or more points in a season gets you a grid penalty. Ten points get you a race ban.

Questions: First, do we know if Jorge is riding on his beloved edge treatment bridgestones this weekend? Second Rossi was handed a penalty point for holding up Jorge during Q2; does this mean he only stands 11 points up in the championship now?
I guess my third question is this: what would happen if by some strange magic, the championship ended with a tie in points, and as ridiculous as that sounds I’ll take it a step further and say that both championship leaders won the same number of races. What then? Double world champions? Is there some rule about this?

I can’t find any mention of the Rossi penalty. If it is fact that sucks. It is interesting that Lorenzo talked about how the tires drop off. Granted he was fast in all levels of wear, but it could make it interesting.
So I was just watching a video that mentioned the penalty point. Thats kind of huge.
I’m pretty sure the tied riders have a death match race that includes spiked tires, razor-edged handguards, and various medieval weaponry wielded from the saddle at high speed.
In the event of a tie, the FIM and Dorna have decided to fly the two riders to the U.S and have them sit through a Donald Trump speech. The guy that doesn’t pass out or puke wins.
What if both riders turn down that option?
