AMA celebrates April as AMA Go Ride! Month – Weekly themes showcase motorcycling activities all month long

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Every April, the American Motorcyclist Association highlights cool stuff to do on two wheels as part of AMA Go Ride! Month. It is the annual reminder that motorcycling is the best way to go to work, go out on the town, go see the country or just go have fun.

“Even if you’ve been riding all winter, this is a good time to appreciate all there is to do in 2016,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “From hometown poker runs to Americade, the AMA National Road Riding Convention in Lake George, N.Y., or from local races to the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., there’s something for everyone on the AMA calendar.

“Whether you’re participating in an organized event, or just out for a casual ride, we encourage all motorcyclists to put in as much time as they can on two wheels,” Dingman said. “Riding is one way to increase awareness of motorcycling, and increasing awareness is one of the best ways to advocate for the motorcycle lifestyle.”

To convey the spirit of AMA Go Ride! Month, the AMA has given each week a theme that captures something special about motorcycling, while also giving those who participate a chance to win some cool prizes.

April 4-10: Go Ride with the Next Generation
Celebrate what it means to pass our love of riding motorcycles to newer or younger motorcyclists. Get a chance to win one of four AMA-themed Strider Bikes.

April 11-17: Go Ride the Unknown
Take your motorcycles on roads and trails less traveled. Participants will have a chance to win a TomTom RIDER 400 GPS unit.

April 18-24: Go Ride Together
Experience motorcycling the social way: with others. Connect with clubs and go on group rides. You could win a 10S Dual Kit from Sena Technologies.

April 25-30: Go Ride for a Cause
Use your motorcycle to do some good in the world. Help raise money and awareness for those in need. A Cardo Scala Rider PackTalk Duo is up for grabs.

Finally, on Saturday, April 30, the AMA invites motorcyclists to its campus from 5-8 p.m. for an AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Bike Night. The event, which caps off AMA Go Ride! Month, will feature a live band, more prizes and a bike show organized by regional magazine Thunder Roads Ohio.

Riders can participate and help spread the word about motorcycling by sharing photos on social media, engaging with the AMA or simply entering a drawing. Details will be announced each week in a press release and shared at both www.facebook.com/americanmotorcyclist and through the AMA Twitter account @ama_riding.

To learn more about AMA-sanctioned events and the AMA-chartered organizers that make them happen, see the AMA website www.americanmotorcyclist.com. AMA members also can plan a great individual ride using the AMA Great Roads Database or AMA Trails Atlas. The AMA State Laws charts help you make sure you follow the local rules of the road or trail, while street and off-highway rider resource pages provide great tips for new and veteran riders. Current and future racers can learn everything they need to know in the racing section of the AMA website, as well.

In addition to riding with the knowledge that they support riders’ freedoms across the country, AMA members enjoy a number of money-saving benefits, including AMA Roadside Assistance, which comes at no additional cost to any member who signs up for auto-renewal of their AMA membership with a valid credit card and email address.
