Monster Energy Supercross Historical Notes Package – Race 14 – The Dome – St. Louis, MO

The 2016 season marks the 20th anniversary of Monster Energy Supercross in St. Louis.

Saturday’s race will serve as the season premiere on FOX Broadcast Channel.

The Dome is one of just three stadiums on the Monster Energy Supercross schedule to host every race in a host city that has two decades of history, along with Angel Stadium in Anaheim and Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

St. Louis could be considered the city of champions as 19 of the 21 total winners at The Dome across both the 450SX & 250SX classes have won a 450SX Class and/or 250SX Class title.

 

450SX Class: Stats

  • 2015 Podium: Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac, Jason Anderson
  • The first 450SX Class race held in St. Louis was on April 27, 1996. Jeff Emig won on a Kawasaki.
  • This will be the 21st time the gate will drop for a 450SX Class race in St. Louis.
  • Ricky Carmichael’s last 450SX Class last victory came in St. Louis in 2007.
  • There has never been a first time winner in St. Louis.
  • Eight different riders have won in 20 years of races in St. Louis. All but one have a 450SX Class title to their credit.
  • Carmichael and Chad Reed are the winningest riders in St. Louis with four wins apiece, winning eight of nine races from ’01-’09.
  • Carmichael won in St. Louis on three different brands – Kawasaki, then Honda and Suzuki.
  • Kevin Windham’s two wins in St. Louis came 10 years apart, in 1998 and 2008.
  • James Stewart’s last 450SX Class win came in St. Louis in 2014. It was his milestone 50th career win.
  • Four riders have won St. Louis in both classes. Carmichael, Reed, Stewart and Windham. Justin Barcia, Trey Canard and Marvin Musquin can all join them with a win.
  • The rider to win in St. Louis has gone on to win the championship 50% of the time in 20 seasons. It has happened three of the last four seasons.
  • Dungey earned his 20th career victory last season in St. Louis and now has the opportunity to earn his 30th at the same venue on Saturday.
