We are sorry to report that young Luis Salom passed away earlier today following a crash during practice for the Moto2 event at Catalunya. The 24 year old had won 9 Grand Prix events, and nearly won the Moto3 championship in 2013. He raced for the SAG Racing Team.
This is the first fatality in a MotoGP event since the passing of Marco Simoncelli in 2011. Our condolences to the family and friends of Salom.
Here is a video featuring Salom. We know that many of our readers do not understand Spanish, but watching the video can give you an understanding of Salom’s spirit and his talent on a motorcycle.

so sad, I remember the lives of each racer. When one dies , a part of all of me does too. The riders gives so much of themselves, and we can easily forget that while we may at times feel invincible, no one truly is. Peace to luis and his family, you will be remembered!

This is why I will never begrudge any motorcycle racer his salary. These guys typically have a career shelf-life of only ten years or so, they’re so devoted to the sport that they often have no other job skills, and every moment they’re on the bike could be their last.
Professional racers truly earn every penny someone is willing to pay them.
RIP, Mr. Salom
Well said. We enjoy the sport and almost forget how it is dangerous.
RIP, Luis… 🙁
