The race at Phillip Island saw Viñales take his second podium in two consecutive weeks aboard the Factory GSX-RR – following his Motegi podium in Japan – and also witnessed an on-form Espargaró on-target for his first podium of the season until an unfortunate slip-off with five laps to go.
